Meal Plan Included
Session 1 - Introduction
This session will be focused around getting to know you. A full nutrition assessment will be done, including a dietary history (understanding your likes and dislikes), and your anthropometric measurements.
During this session you will be given your meal program.
You should walk with your blood glucose monitor at each session.
Session 2 - What are carbohydrates part 1
In this session you will also become familiar with the role of insulin in your body.
You will also be introduced to foods that affect you blood sugars using the Diabetes Exchange List. This session will focus on starches, juices (sweetened and unsweetened) and fruits.

Session 3 - What are carbohydrates part 2

Like session 2, this session begins with a review of your blood glucose and your meal program.
During this session you will discuss with the dietitian how high blood glucose can affect your arteries and affect cholesterol levels and blood pressure.
This session also continues the discussion on the Diabetes Exchange List. This session will focus on dairy, legumes and vegetables.
Food label reading will also be discussed during this session to encourage good decision making about your health.
Session 4- Maintenance
You will also discuss the HbA1c test as part of your maintenance plan.
During this session you will also discuss sweetened beverages, and sugar vs artificial sugars.
Portion sizes are important to a healthy lifestyle. You will discuss your portion sizes and use the exchange list when planning your own meals.
For persons using insulin you will also discuss how to correct hypoglycemia and hyperglycemic.

We will also discuss how different foods impact your body.

Maintaining the Lifestyle (2 weeks apart)
These sessions will also start by reviewing your progress and any questions you may have. Your weight will be checked and your general outlook toward changes discussed and recommendations for any adjustments will be made.
These sessions will also focus on making your healthy lifestyle a long term consistent activity. Helping you to read food labels, determine what to eat and what to avoid, and when to eat. Also helping you to understand why portion sizes are important to a healthy lifestyle. You will discuss your portion sizes and use the exchange list when planning your own meals. During these sessions you will also learn how to build a healthy plate. And we will have a chance to review your efforts in building your healthy plates by using a food diary, which will be reviewed each session.
